Activists from across the state came together March 10 at the Capitol for Health Care for All Minnesota’s 2026 Health Care Lobby Day. Nearly 100 attendees, advocates, community members, and partners showed up in force to demand a health care system that puts people over profit.
Due to the emergency created for Minnesota’s Medicaid program by the
funding cuts from July’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” Dave Garibaldi and Don Pylkkanen (co-chairs of the Legislative Policy Committee), Kip Sullivan, and Ken Engelhart (chair of the Coalition Builders Committee) have recommended that HCA-MN’s priority from now to the 2026 legislative session
be continued expansion of constituent meetings with their senate district
legislators.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credit subsidies for health insurance that were
passed by Congress during the Covid pandemic are due to expire on January 1, 2026. Twenty
million Americans are expected to see a premium increase of at least 75% on average without
the subsidies.
It is important to recognize our members of Congress for having the courage to do the right
thing. Sadly, Sen. Smith is still only the third current member of our ten US members of
Congress from Minnesota, to cosponsor Medicare for All!
